January Workshops

We have some great online yoga workshops coming your way this January!

Chai, Chat and Meditation – What is Happiness?

Grab a cup of masala chai or herbal tea and let’s explore contentment and the pursuit of happiness. Donation based Support one of our charity partners: Cork Simon Community – Ireland https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Himalaya-Yoga-Valley-Centre-Cork1 Goa Outreach – India https://www.totalgiving.co.uk/mypage/chaichatmeditation In challenging times, we need to find moments of contentment even if ‘happiness’ is elusive. Happiness is always transient and by clinging to the need to be happy or seeking out peak experiences, we often create judgment and attachment. It is important right now to acknowledge each and every emotion and the gifts and challenges they bring. It is also important right now that it is OK to feel content even when others are suffering or are challenged – Sometimes I am asked if the yogic path is a selfish path as we are focusing on our own Self Realization or our own Inner Peace, but from this deeper place of understanding of ourselves we can hold the space for others to feel safe. It’s a compassionate path. When we say we are happy – what do we really mean. Are we feeling happy when we feel safe? Or peaceful? Or connected? Let’s get clear with our language, let’s feel and honour emotions as they arise and let us learn to hold the space for others. There will be a little bit of chat and an opportunity to tune in through meditation.

Yoga, Meditation and Neuroplasticity Workshop with Viriam – 48h access
€20.00

Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to change – up until the 1990s it was believed that the brain and nervous system did not regenerate and that we were ‘hardwired’ to certain behaviours but then neuroscientists started to prove that the brain can indeed change – the ancient yogis have always known this. Yogic practices whether its meditation or movement lay down new neural pathways in the brain and encourage new ways of thinking, being and inhabiting our mind-body. Practices that combine movement and concentration are useful for changing habits and behaviours. We will look at different forms of meditation and how they affect change; how we can rewrite our story and lay down conscious neural pathways that down-regulate limting self belief and, toxic behaviours. We will look at the yogic concept of samskaras (imprints of all past painful and pleasurable experiences) and how again if we cultivate conscious practices we cultivate conscious samskaras – it is not all about getting rid of our samskaras – it is about creating new conscious behaviours. Yoga For Persistent Pain and Fatigue Management Workshop with Petra – 48h Access

€20.00

Chronic pain and fatigue are accompanied by a large variety of symptoms differing from one person to another. How each of us copes with them is yet another story. The common element is hypersensitivity of our nervous systems that is in constant override. In this workshop, we will explore yogic techniques that help to calm down the nervous system, gently release energy-blockages in the body, connect with our breath and tap into our inner wisdom that will guide us beyond this workshop.

ABOUT PETRA Petra is a former political adviser in the European Parliament turned dedicated yoga practitioner and a teacher. She started teaching yoga in early 2018, at the same time as the stress of her high-paced job became less and less manageable. Only a year later, she experienced a severe burnout and soon after got diagnosed with fibromyalgia. This blessing in disguise forced her out of her career and directly onto the path that fully resonated with her heart – the path of sharing yoga. Petra is the founder of Sharing Yoga, proud Himalaya Yoga Valley graduate and a firm believer in and advocate of accessibility of the healing practices of yoga for all regardless shape, age, background or ability.
